Gibbard Block – Your All Inclusive Edmonton Destination

When you think “all-inclusive”, does the beach side resort in a tropical destination come to mind? Sipping Pina Coladas, snorkeling and volleyball in the sand? Me as well, but I learned that all inclusive can mean so much more if you open your mind to it. The Gibbard Block in the Highlands of Edmonton really has it all.

This historic building has been an anchor of this 112 Avenue commercial area since 1912, but has been developed into what can only be described as a unique one stop offsite venue. Edmonton entrpreneurs Nathan Box and Michael Forgie of Black Box Hospitality have rebuilt three distinct businesses within this building, and we were fortunate to have Mike give us the insider’s tour.

Imagine, a corporate retreat for executives…you need somewhere for them to stay, eat, meet and unwind. Enter – Gibbard Block. Your guests can check in to one of the eight rooms on the second floor run by AirBnB, with full kitchens, wifi, and Netflix. On the main floor, three businesses will give your guests everything they need during their stay; June’s Delicatessen, Fox Burger, and Highlands Liquor Store. A trendy and unique coworking space on the second floor adds quiet places for phone calls, small meetings or to catch up on emails. A beautiful roof top patio is perfect for lunch on a warm summer’s day, or a relaxing reception after a long day of meetings. The real highlight of this space though, is the little known about lower level. You can set this space up boardroom style to get the working portion done, then open the double doors leading into a funky, eclectic bar space for some after work cocktails. The pricing here will amaze anyone familiar in the event industry familiar with traditional conference spaces.

Who knew we had this option as an offsite venue? While conference centres and hotels often give us planners everything we need to host executive retreats, Edmonton Tourism has opened this Diva’s eyes to other possibilities. And if you’re not a planner and you’re just looking for a great burger and a neat, economical place to stay while visiting Edmonton, be sure to visit this venue!
